Mold Allergy Relief

A home or environment that has been exposed to toxic mold spores can have you desperately looking for mold allergy relief.

Mold is a huge problem in a number of regions. Mostly seen in warm and humid countries and areas. But it can exist in cold weather climates as well. It exists in pretty much all parts of the world.

Mold allergies are triggered by mold spores. Spores are how mold propagates itself. When mold is ready to reproduce, it emits mold spores into the air. Some of the spores land in areas that are perfect for feeding. Those are the ones that reproduce and continue to grow.

Although mold can grow just about anywhere, the perfect feeding environment for mold is one in which there is an abundance of decomposing plant and animal matter.

How To Attain Mold Allergy Relief

Dr. Bob explains using the sun and dehumidifier to
attain mold allergy relief.

Mold can often be found in buildings where water has been allowed to flow and collect between the walls. The damp foam boards or sheetrock allows the mold to grow. As they grow, mold spores are released into the air and spread through the building via the air and cooling vents. If you are a mold allergy sufferer and are constantly exposed to these spores, this can be more than an inconvenience. It can possibly trigger a fatal allergic reaction. You can find mold allergy relief, however, if you know the symptoms and treatments for it.

Mold Allergy Symptoms

Mold allergy symptoms are easy to confuse with a cold since they have many symptoms in common. Typical symptoms are sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose, itchy eyes, chronic coughing, and difficulty breathing. If you are suffering from mold allergies, you could experience one or more of these symptoms. Common drugstore medications (see below) can help to provide mold allergy relief.

Mold Allergy Treatment and Prevention for Mold Allergy Relief

When painting walls and ceilings in rooms that are traditionally breeding grounds for mold, think about using paints that contain mold inhibitors in them. They are a bit more expensive, but worth it if anyone in your family is mold sensitive.

Avoid placing carpeting in bathrooms, kitchens, and any rooms where moisture is likely to collect. When carpeting becomes wet, it acts as a great breeding ground for mold.

If you have rooms that are damp such as a basement, buy a dehumidifier for it. A dehumidifier will help keep the air in the room dry and deprive mold from the moisture that it needs to thrive.

Mold Allergy Remedies

The basic and most effective means of achieving mold allergy relief is to get rid of the source of the mold as well as the conditions that allows it to thrive. You can purchase mold killing products at any good hardware store or home center. Once you have the mold killing mixture, apply it to anywhere where mold is likely to grow. The obvious places include shower curtains, all sorts of tiles, soap dishes, dampened carpets in the bathroom and garage. If your basement has had flooding issues, undoubtedly some of your possessions were dampened and became prime environments for mold. You need to either disinfect these or throw them out.

If the mold is really bad in an area in which you are cleaning or working, you can purchase a -(mold allergy mask) to filter out the spores so you don't breath them in. To help eliminate your exposure to the mold, make sure that the mask is well fitting.

Mold Allergy Medications

There is no cure for mold allergy, but there are some medications that can ease your symptoms and provide a bit of mold allergy relief. You can find over the counter mold allergy medications at your local drugstore.

A common one, however, is loratadine known under trade name of Claritin and Alavert. And there is cetirizine, sold under the trade name of Zyrtec. There are other ones as well. Your pharmacist can suggest others that he thinks may be effective.

Multiple chemical sensitivity
An estimated 40 million Americans already show clear and obvious signs of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. The rest of us are undoubtedly affected in less obvious ways.
